Delivering High Quality Care in the Midst of Healthcare Disruption Requires Virtual Collaboration

Posted by PureWeb on Thu, Nov 22, 2018

Healthcare collaboration brings clinicians together to solve problems, make decisions, formulate patient care plans and then carry them out. In a world of aging patients and increasing chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer and heart disease, such collaboration is critical to delivering quality patient care. At the same time, however, collaboration as a practice is being disrupted by healthcare delivery trends including hospital and health system consolidation and broad adoption of telehealth.

Transition to Value-Based Payment for Imaging Requires Value-Based Care with Imaging

Posted by PureWeb on Tue, Oct 23, 2018

Value-based payment, or VBP, includes both risks and rewards for providers. While VBP requires providers to share financial risk with payers, it also delivers financial rewards for higher-quality, value-based care. With value-based payments, providers receive financial rewards when they meet quality measures, coordinate care, prevent repetitive treatment, control overall costs and improve health outcomes. Despite this financial carrot, value-based payments are on a slow growth path because meeting their requirements necessitates value-based care, which in turn requires access to and sharing of patient data between providers that is frequently not technically possible.

Imaging Results Top the List of Patient Data that Providers E-Access Most Frequently

Posted by PureWeb on Wed, Oct 10, 2018

A new report from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) expands on a previous survey to provide the first national view of what patient data types office-based providers in the US electronically send, receive and search for. Virtual Connections Bring Radiologists to Patients and Referring Providers Without Leaving The Reading Room

Posted by PureWeb on Mon, Sep 17, 2018

Recent research has shown that direct communication with radiologists makes patients more satisfied and referring providers more educated. In a January 2018 survey, 96% of patients said that reviewing imaging studies with radiologists improved their understanding of both findings and recommendations. A 2016 study found that 45% of acute care surgeons revised their surgical plans after meeting face-to-face with radiologists. Since the digitization of imaging, however, the practice and workflow of radiology has tied radiologists to their PACS workstations severely limiting their ability to participate in face-to-face, and even phone- based, communications.

Access to Diagnostic Quality Images Enables "Massive Leap" in Pediatric Emergency Care for Australia’s New South Wales

Posted by PureWeb on Tue, Aug 14, 2018

In New South Wales (NSW), Australia’s most populous state that is bigger than Texas, there are 254 hospitals to serve its population of nearly 8 million. However, among these hospitals only 10 have neonatal intensive care capacity and only three have pediatric intensive care capacity. To solve this care gap, in 1979 the state established the Newborn and pediatric Emergency Transport Service (NETS) to provide 24/7 emergency transport of emergency pediatric cases to Sydney Children’s Hospital or other locations.
